The successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo will arrive in 2014

Gallardo 1

Lamborghini continues to work hard on its 50th anniversary so that the replacement for the Gallardo is ready in 2014. Following the brand’s plans, in September of this year, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Lamborghini will present a prototype that will faithfully preview the lines of the smaller Lamborghini, which could change its name to Cabrera.

Continuing with the aluminium and carbon fibre chassis, the new Lamborghini is expected to be a little lighter than its predecessor, which, combined with a more powerful and revised engine, will make the Gallardo’s successor a definitive machine.

The new small Lambo will grow in length to reach 4.5 metres, taking advantage of a new (and longer) wheelbase, which will translate into much more effective handling, not to mention the benefits in interior space and room that occupants will enjoy. However, and although it may seem contradictory, the Audi R8 and the new Lamborghini will not share dimensions, since each will receive different measurements, making the Audi the one more focused on daily use thanks to its longer wheelbase.

With a weight that will not exceed 1,500 kg, the new Lambo will have jaw-dropping performance thanks to its 5.2 V10 naturally aspirated engine, basically the same unit as the current generation, but conveniently tuned to achieve a power output of around 600 CV. Of course, it will comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard that will apply from next year.

As standard, it will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and optionally you will be able to choose a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which the Audi R8 has fitted since its restyling. All-wheel drive will also be standard, although Lamborghini also plans to offer rear-wheel drive only.
