The Maranello manufacturer held an important event this week. It was not the presentation or testing of a new model, but the opening of the renovated museum of its own. The event took place this Tuesday, when Ferrari’s own chief executive, Luca di Montezemolo, presented the reopening of this kind of “Mecca” for Ferrari enthusiasts.

The renovation of the museum has been very thorough. The space devoted to exhibiting the various models in Ferrari’s history, among them the LaFerrari, has been expanded to more than 1,000 square metres. The section dedicated to exhibitions has also evolved. It opens with a new series of photographs showing the best-known Ferrari cars in cinema, titled “From Cinecittà to Hollywood”.

It includes the 275 GTB4 driven by Steve McQueen, the Mondial t Cabrio driven by Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman (1992), and the 330 LMB bodied by Fantuzzi from 1964, used by Federico Fellini in Spirits of the Dead (1968). Alongside this exhibition, visitors can also see another titled “Ferrari from another world. Mules and Adventure“.

This allows visitors to observe the different mules, or camouflaged test prototypes, that Ferrari used in the early stages of developing its models. According to Montezemolo, the new Ferrari Museum expects to welcome up to 300,000 people during 2013. And, of course, its shop also stocks an updated catalogue of gifts for those who visit.
