The Tesla Model 3 has 258 CV and a truly impressive battery
The remaining technical specifications of the Tesla Model 3 are revealed in a document provided by the brand to obtain the EPA certification.
During the official launch of the Tesla Model 3, the American company revealed much of its secrets, but there were still things to learn. Now, after receiving the certificate from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), we already know the remaining technical specifications of the model that is the star of the company led by Elon Musk.
Its battery capacity is 3 kWh higher than that of the standard Tesla Model S

According to the document provided by Tesla in its procedure to obtain EPA certification, the long range version (“extended range”) of the Model 3 offers a battery of 350 volts and a capacity of 230 amp-hours, or what is the same, 78 kWh (3 kWh more than the standard battery of the Model S). Therefore, the energy capacity of the Tesla Model 3 is higher than expected, since in the past Elon Musk announced that the wheelbase of the saloon left room for a battery pack of up to 75 kWh. Having increased its wheelbase compared with the prototype versions – with the aim of sharing a platform with the upcoming Model Y – has allowed the Model 3 to house a battery of greater capacity.
258 CV of power and the same type of motor as the Model S

Another important detail revealed by Tesla in the document is the power of the Model 3. Apparently, the Tesla “bestseller” will feature a third-phase electric motor with permanent magnets (the same technology as the Model S and Model X) that will deliver 258 CV of power in the “long range” version. We do not yet know the official power of the standard version, but it should not be far below the figure indicated, since both offer similar acceleration; the standard version accelerates half a second slower. We are therefore talking about a model whose entry-level variants have lower performance than the rest of the Tesla range: both the Model S and Model X offer 333 CV in their most basic versions. In any case, Tesla plans to launch a high-performance version of the Model 3 that could come to match the Model S P100D in performance.
Rear-wheel drive in its entry-level versions
As expected, the Model 3 offers rear-wheel drive in its entry-level variants, although it cannot be ruled out that the aforementioned high-performance version will end up offering all-wheel drive.

Regenerative braking on both axles
Another revealing detail about the Tesla Model 3 is that, despite being a rear-wheel-drive vehicle, its regenerative braking system will act on both the rear and front axles, something that also happens on the Model S in its rear-drive versions.
The Model 3 versions will be named according to their range
Both the versions of the Model S and those of the Model X receive their name according to the energy capacity their batteries provide. For example, the Model S fitted with the 75 kWh battery is called the Model S 75. Now that Tesla customers had become accustomed to this nomenclature, the American company has decided to change the criterion under which the different variants of the Model 3 are named. The latest launch from Tesla will receive its suffix based on the range offered by each of its versions.
