The Tesla Model S beats its rivals in a drag race despite starting at a disadvantage
CarWow’s team pits the Tesla Model S against its German rivals in a drag race: the Mercedes E63 AMG, the Audi RS6 and the BMW 760i M

The Tesla Model S P100D is well known for being a giant-killer in acceleration races. The most performance-oriented version of Tesla’s electric saloon has an electric motor that produces outrageous figures: 778 CV of power and 920 Nm of torque.
Few cars can match its instant acceleration, not even the best supercars on the market, as we saw a few weeks ago in the seventh edition of the World’s Greatest Drag Race, a race organised by MotorTrend’s team.

On this occasion, the Tesla Model S does not face rivals of the same calibre, but cars with which it directly competes in the premium saloon segment: the BMW M760 LI, the Audi RS6 and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.
All the participants in this Drag Race, including the Tesla, carry considerable excess weight, but the American model has a significant performance advantage over its German rivals: on average it has around 170 CV more.
To even out the balance, CarWow’s team decides to give the German cars a slight head start off the line, but even so they are unable to beat the American car in the area where it feels most at home: acceleration races. A clear victory that reminds us which car is the one to beat in the famous Drag Race.
