In the past Geneva Motor Show 2016 we had the chance to see the Toyota C-HR that will soon go into production and be ready for sale in Europe, but Americans will have to wait a little longer for it to be ready for their market. In fact, the Toyota C-HR that can be seen at the New York Motor Show 2016, whose doors open next week, will be a modified version of the prototype that was already presented in Los Angeles, the Scion C-HR Concept.

This model has been modified to bring it as close as possible to the production model that will reach the American market in the coming months. The definitive C-HR model will arrive at the end of 2016 and will be presented as the 2018 model year, so we can still expect some significant change in the design and specifications of the car.

Traditional and hybrid engines

Although in Europe it is known that this model will have a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 114 CV, in addition to the hybrid system of the Prius, which consists of a 1.8-litre thermal unit and an electric motor that together deliver 122 CV, the specifications of this model’s American version are not known. There is talk of the incorporation of a 2.0-litre petrol engine, linked to a CVT transmission, but it is not specified whether this will be an engine for the European or the American market.

The Toyota C-HR is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) concept which, according to the brand, is an “innovative and integrated approach to the development of new platforms and powertrains”, which will allow Toyota to develop interesting proposals within the sustainable mobility industry.

The C-HR will be on the stand of Toyota alongside the revamped GT-86, another of the Japanese brand’s highlights at the American show.
