The Toyota GR Yaris, the most radical city car, already has a price in Germany

The Toyota GR Yaris is one of the brand’s most anticipated models and, although we still don’t know the price it will have in Spain, it will cost €33,200 in Germany.

Toyota surprised -and delighted- car enthusiasts with the GR Yaris, a supercharged version of the Japanese city car that not only pays tribute to the legacy of sporty small cars but also serves to homologate a rally variant. Without a doubt, this move by the Japanese manufacturer carries a certain nostalgic flavour, as it takes us straight back to the golden era of the Lancia Delta Integrale and Ford RS200. But, following the launch of the GR Yaris, we all feared the answer to a question that kept running through our minds: its price.

It is true that the amount the most purist Spanish buyers will have to pay has not yet been revealed, but we do know what German buyers will have to shell out to get their hands on it. The fact is that Toyota has already revealed the price of its GR Yaris for the German market, where this type of vehicle enjoys unprecedented success and where it will become a frequent visitor to the Nürburgring.

Because before we even reach that extremely radical mechanical section, we encounter a look that already invites us to imagine the natural habitat of the GR Yaris. Wider wheel arches, a rugged and imposing front bumper and a diffuser that in turn houses a twin exhaust outlet all combine to give us a spicy ensemble that quickly reminds us of the rally car DNA this variant of the Japanese city car carries.

However, it is the mechanicals of the Toyota GR Yaris that put the cherry on top of this delicious cake. A 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivers a whopping 261 CV and 360 Nm of torque, figures that move a mass of just 1,280 kilos. To this we must add a superb, genuine all-wheel-drive system of the very best kind.

Yes, we know the GR Yaris is all candy, but what about its price? Toyota has stated that in Germany buyers will have to pay 33,200 euros. Without a doubt, it is a figure that may seem somewhat high when we remember we are talking about a Toyota Yaris, but it is not just any Yaris.

Let us remember that rivals with less power sit in a higher price range, such as the Volkswagen Golf GTI or the Renault Megane R.S. With this premise, we can say that the Toyota GR Yaris is a product that will go down in history as one of those models that revived what was once called the sporty compact, a concept that has evolved, losing several of its fundamental nuances.
