The upcoming Porsche 911 GT3 Touring could remain faithful to the manual gearbox
Porsche continues working on the next generation of the 911 and on its most radical versions such as the GT3 Touring, a model that could keep the manual gearbox

The world of supercars is about to be blessed with the arrival of the next generation of the Porsche 911, a model that has stirred passions since time immemorial. The German firm has for some time been showing several test mules not only of the entry-level variants of its flagship sports car, but also of the more radical ones. Among them is the future 911 GT3 RS that we told you about a few weeks ago, but today we have come across what could be the next GT3 with Touring bodywork.
This variant of the nine-eleven made its debut at the same time as the current generation of the German sports car, which is still in production. In this way, Porsche gave its purest – and most discreet – customers an option that keeps intact the sensations of a GT3 while offering a more refined and clean look, something it achieves by dispensing with the massive rear wing that characterises the most radical 911s.
At the same time, the GT3 Touring is powered by a naturally aspirated engine capable of accepting a manual transmission to offer its drivers a purer and more passionate driving experience, something that would not need to change in the next generation. Under the codename 992 lies the next 911, which also appears to have taken in a Touring variant that promises not only to deliver even more spectacular sensations, but also to remain true to its principles.

Porsche has once again chosen the Monza circuit to test its upcoming vehicles, allowing us to distinguish some features that could be reflected in the production variants. Among them we can make out a 911 governed by a retractable rear wing and a thundering sound typical of the naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines of the Stuttgart firm.
The absence of a spectacular rear wing and the constant lengthening of the gears that sends a shiver down our spines are clear signs that this is the next 911 GT3 Touring. This model could continue to respect the seven-speed manual gearbox, as well as the naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine but with a power output close to 550 CV.

For the moment Porsche has made no statement on the matter, but everything points to the German firm waiting for the next edition of the Geneva Motor Show to unveil the 992 generation of its 911 first. In the meantime, we can hope that everything suggests Porsche will keep its naturally aspirated engines in the most sporty 911s, a clear indication that they will continue to offer that charismatic purity we enjoy so much.
