The Volkswagen Polo 2021 receives a major refresh

Volkswagen continues with the renewal of its model range, and proof of this is the Volkswagen Polo 2021, which is updated with major new features.

The supermini segment is back on the rise thanks to the major new developments that various manufacturers are applying to it. However, and against all expectations, the representatives of this segment, courtesy of the Volkswagen Group, had fallen behind, but their respective managers have now got their act together. Proof of this is the new Volkswagen Polo 2021, a model that is undergoing a major restyling to stand up to its significant rivals and keep pace with the passing of time.

And the people from Wolfsburg have bet on major new features that give the Polo a fresher and more contemporary design. In addition, these also affect the cabin, technology and mechanical sections, where Volkswagen has decided no longer to give prominence to the diesel engines that until now were present in the Polo’s engine line-up.

In terms of styling we find headlights with a new LED design that are joined together by a light strip inspired by the one featured on the Golf. A new bumper and new wheel designs also stand out, as does a rear end where all the focus falls on new wedge-shaped taillights and the central placement of the word Polo.

In the cabin we find a digital instrument cluster that can be 8 or 10.25 inches depending on the trim level. Special mention goes to the infotainment system screen, which features new software and is available in 6.5 or 9.2 inch sizes, complemented by a steering wheel with a new cut and a climate control panel that hints at going digital by dispensing with physical buttons.

As we have already mentioned, the mechanical section ignores diesel engines. With this premise, we find the 1.0 MPI with 80 CV as the entry version with a five-speed manual gearbox, followed by the 1.0 TSI with 95 CV with the same gearbox or a 7-speed DSG. The top of the range for now is the same 1.0 TSI but producing 110 CV and only with the DSG gearbox. The presence of the 1.0 TGI with 90 CV also stands out, a variant that uses CNG as a second source of fuel. A GTI version will be available, arriving from the summer.

With all this, Volkswagen will continue to manufacture the Polo in Spain, specifically in Pamplona. Even so, the arrival date of this refresh of the German supermini is currently unknown, as are its prices, so we will have to wait a while.
