The Volkswagen Polo will return as an electric model... under the ID badge

One of Volkswagen’s models that has always been most successful is the Polo. This model has been one of the brand’s best sellers and although its survival was in doubt, there seems to be room for hope that it will return, one way or another. Although we already know that a renewed version of the model may not be possible, there is a chance that the name will pass to another model.

And the electric models of Volkswagen could be the destination for several of the names that have been discontinued or will be discontinued soon. For the moment, the ID family of the German brand also remains, although it could disappear, since all of Volkswagen’s models will be electric within a few years.

But in the meantime, Volkswagen’s electric models will continue to be known by the ID name. That said, it seems the brand wants to associate those legendary Volkswagen names with the range. That is why we may soon see the confirmation of the Volkswagen ID.Polo.

Apparently, there are plans to rename the already announced ID.2 X, which will be called ID.Polo. It is not the only one that could change name, as there is also data about the renaming of the ID.3 X, which could be known as ID.Tiguan. A clear statement of intent, because it would mean that Volkswagen continues to bet on names that have been part of the recent history of the automotive industry.

For Thomas Schäffer, CEO of Volkswagen, having these well-known Volkswagen brands available and not using them would be counterproductive. The survival of the Polo, Golf and GTI names under Volkswagen’s electrification banner promises a bright future for these models, even if they are not what we are used to seeing. Something similar, by the way, to what has happened with the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, which has served as a test for this new use of the classic names.
