The Volkswagen Tiguan debuts all-wheel drive in the snow

The SUV of Volkswagen is being put through its paces in one of the most inhospitable environments in Europe. The brand’s engineering team has travelled to the Swedish town of Arvidsjaur, in the heart of Lapland, to test the new 4MOTION all-wheel drive system fitted to the Volkswagen Tiguan, which is undergoing the most demanding tests in a place where snow and ice reign supreme.
The new version of this model is the first SUV built on the MQB platform, which brings some improvements over the previous version: the vehicles that result from this combination are lighter and more efficient, and also offer better interior packaging that allows occupants to travel in greater comfort. One of those improvements is the new all-wheel drive system.
With the new 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the Tiguan will improve its performance on any type of terrain, even in snow
The Tiguan will reach dealerships with 4MOTION Active Control, which allows the driver to adjust the behaviour of the four-wheel drive specifically for each type of terrain and situation. The system can be set to Onroad, Snow, Offroad and Offroad Individual modes, in which the driver can adjust the settings of the various drive components to drive safely over any kind of terrain.

In each of these driving modes the car responds in a different way, with the changes programmed into each one. Offroad Individual mode lets the driver make whatever adjustments they need to feel comfortable and secure while driving.
In addition, the 4MOTION system automatically distributes torque if any wheel loses grip. Torque is sent to the wheel with the most grip, so the driver is not even aware of the manoeuvre and control is maintained at all times. 4MOTION Active Control will be available on Tiguan Volkswagen models fitted with the 2.0 TSI 180 CV petrol engine and in the 2.0 TDI 150, 190 and 240 CV diesel versions.
