The Cross Country version of the electric SUV Volvo EX30 is undergoing several tests aimed at proving that it can handle difficult terrain

The Volvo EX30 arrived on the market to offer a compact SUV that could complement the Swedish manufacturer’s range. Without anyone being prepared for it, this model has become a sales success and has found its place in today’s tough market. So Volvo has decided to launch a more adventurous and dynamic version, which will carry the Cross Country badge.

This variant was scheduled to reach the market before the end of 2024, but that has not been the case. For now, the model is being tested in northern Europe, in extreme weather conditions: ice, snow and cold. Everything appears to be going well, and it is expected to launch during 2025, for those who want an extra touch on their SUV.

Features of the Volvo EX30

The Volvo EX30 Cross Country adds several features that set it apart from the road and make it better suited to off-road driving. The main one is greater ground clearance, which will allow it to move more efficiently in off-road situations. Whereas the standard EX30 offers 171 mm in this respect, the Cross Country model will have more space between the ground and the underside of the car.

It will also fit 18-inch wheels, and black is the star colour of the added elements, giving it a more adventurous and bold look. It is present on the front, on the roof rack and at the rear. The closed grille confirms the model’s place in the electric segment, and protective underbody cladding visible on the sides helps give it a more off-road appearance than the regular version.

As for the electric drive system, it is expected to feature all-wheel drive. Two motors, one on each axle, will power the SUV. Their total output is not yet known, but given that one all-wheel-drive variant of the model offers 400 CV, this is expected to be the figure for the EX30 Cross Country.

The battery fitted to the model will have a capacity of 69 kWh, allowing a range of 400 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle. It is expected to be presented during the first quarter of 2025, although the final price is not yet known.
