The VW T6.1 van goes electric thanks to ABT-eLine
The company specialising in vehicle conversions has presented a proposal to turn the VW T6.1 van into an electric vehicle within a few days.

The arrival of the electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz van has once again put electric vans from Volkswagen in the spotlight. But before this revolutionary electric commercial vehicle arrived, 4,500 electrified units of the Volkswagen T6.1 van were sold, one of the brand’s best-known and most versatile models.
Once the target number of units had been built, this version was discontinued. The market, however, has kept asking for it, and this is what led the tuner ABT-eLine to consider converting used examples of this model into electric vehicles.

One of the advantages of using used diesel vehicles and converting them to electric is that far less CO2 is produced in the process. This makes it a sustainable option that may interest many companies looking to reduce their carbon footprint. Moreover, unlike the electric version presented by the manufacturer, this conversion can be carried out on all T6.1 vans, regardless of their body, size or wheelbase.

The only requirement is that the diesel engine be coupled to a DSG transmission. The range of the 37.5 kWh battery is estimated at between 105 and 138 kilometres, depending on the variant chosen for the conversion. Consumption is estimated at between 27 and 35.8 kWh per 100 kilometres.
As for the electric motor, it delivers a power output of 83 kW, equivalent to 111 CV, and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. Its top speed is 90 km/h, although a peak of 120 km/h can be reached as an option. The battery can be charged in about 5 hours and 30 minutes on a standard 7.2 kW charger, while at a 50 kW fast-charging station 80% of the battery can be reached in 45 minutes.
This option may be attractive if the diesel engine needs replacing for any reason. Instead of fitting another combustion engine, this conversion can be chosen. It can be done in a short time, and if you do not have a VW T6.1 van, you can turn to the second-hand market and buy one to receive it converted into a practical and sustainable commercial vehicle.
