This Audi S8 tuned by APR has nearly 700 CV and is a true wolf in sheep's clothing

Do you remember when we told you some time ago about that Skoda Superb with more than 500 CV that proclaimed itself the king of wolves in sheep’s clothing? Well, it has now met a tough rival, an Audi S8 of the previous generation. It’s true that the German luxury saloon in its sportier variant already produces a generous number of horsepower, but this featured unit has been modified by APR. In this way, the Audi S8 not only hides even more behind its discreet and elegant styling, but is also capable of surpassing the 600 CV threshold to become the ultimate sleeper.

The guys at AutoTopNL were in charge of recording a video at the controls of this spectacular S8 which, apart from some higher-profile wheels, still looks strictly stock. Another aspect that helps keep intact that wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing essence we love so much is its exhaust system, which remains untouched.

A saloon that nears 700 CV

Let’s recall that deep inside the Audi S8 lies a 4.0-litre TFSI V8 engine capable of producing 519 CV and 620 Nm of torque. With these figures, the four-ring saloon accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. However, thanks to APR this unit is able to raise its output to 688 CV and 945 Nm of torque, allowing it to cut the 0 to 100 sprint down to 3.2 seconds.

Thanks to modifications to the ECU, air filter and downpipe, the Audi S8 finds itself in a position to outperform the more radical version with the Plus badge. This is demonstrated on the Autobahn, where it shows off its incredible performance, reaching 300 km/h and delivering a level of capability more befitting a high-flying supercar than a luxury saloon.

There is no doubt we’re looking at a vehicle that is special in itself, yet has managed to accentuate various characteristics without abandoning its essence. While we eagerly await the next generation of the Audi S8, these tuning projects give us a close look at what we might see in the coming months, since the Frankfurt Motor Show could be the ideal venue to unveil the most powerful variant of the current Audi A8, a vehicle set to deliver output close to 700 CV.
