The Nürburgring has seen the new Porsche 911 Targa, part of the 992 generation, testing. This model recalls the lines of the Porsche Targa from 1965.

Just a week ago we were talking about the launch of the latest version of the 991 generation of the Porsche 911, called Porsche 911 Speedster. Today it is the turn of the Porsche 911 992. This model has been spotted driving around the Green Hell.

The Porsche prototype that has been testing at the Nürburgring carries the same roof as its predecessor and includes all the specific lines of the 992 generation. For now, the Stuttgart brand has not released any specific information about the engines or other details with which the new Targa will reach the market.

The name Targa comes from Italian and means ‘shield’, and is famous for the Targa Florio, a race that years later gave rise to the name the German brand uses for some of its models with removable roofs.

Some sources claim that the Porsche 911 992 Targa spotted at the Nürburgring could reach the market at the end of this year or in early 2020. The Stuttgart brand has just launched its new Porsche 911 992 and everything points to numerous variants reaching the market, just as happened with the 991 generation.

The versions could start with the Carrera and end with the GT2 RS, but right now what has been spotted is a prototype of the Porsche 911 992 Targa. Further details are unknown, but it could be a rear-wheel-drive Targa S or a four-wheel-drive Targa 4S. It is worth noting that this version held the GTS trim in the previous generation.

The prototype spotted on the legendary German track carries no camouflage of any kind, which may mean its debut will take place at the next Frankfurt Motor Show, held in September. This, in turn, would allow drivers to get behind the wheel during 2021.
Judging by the images, the Stuttgart brand could have based it on the legendary Porsche Targa from 1965. That model featured a roll bar, a soft retractable roof and a wraparound rear window. Now, the roll bar will arrive in satin black instead of chrome.

If this spotted model follows the lead of the Carrera variant, it could fit a three-litre twin-turbo engine capable of delivering around 450 CV and 530 Nm of peak torque. It could also be paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
