The Tune it! Safe! campaign from the German tuning industry’s association promotes awareness of legal modifications with this BMW M850i

Undoubtedly, to face rivals on equal terms, anyone must match or surpass their capabilities, which is why, time and again, the average user wonders how it is possible that the various law enforcement and security bodies use for their daily routines vehicles whose performance can be surpassed by practically most of the vehicles criminals use to commit their misdeeds.

But it is also known that, in dribs and drabs, some departments or some forces enjoy genuine sports cars for very specific tasks to which these vehicles, adapted to serve as police cars, are assigned.

That is why we are sure that a good number of officers would clamour to carry out their work aboard this brand-new BMW M850i that has passed through the hands of the specialist in modifications of BMW AC Schnitzer to be disguised with the styling of the Polizei cars, that is, of the German police.

In fact, based on its coupé configuration, the exuberant AC Schnitzer BMW M850i sports a kit of vinyls and lighting like those that cover the German police’s vehicles. The preparation was carried out on the occasion of the cancellation of the Essen Motor Show tuning festival, which led the usual participants, among whom this tuner is included, to run the campaign to raise awareness of the need to comply with legal regulations and to turn to professionals both when making modifications and when obtaining approvals for modified cars Tune it! Safe!

We understand that, with the blessing of the German police, the aim of the Verband Deutscher Automobil Tuner association with the AC Schnitzer BMW M850i Polizei is to demonstrate that legal preparation is safe and that, even though the police may stop a modified vehicle, once the approval of its treatment is verified it could return to circulate freely.

Even so, we doubt anyone can escape this AC Schnitzer BMW M850i because, with the specialist’s work on it, the 4.4-litre V8 engine has increased its power from 530 to 620 CV and so has its torque, which has risen from 750 Nm to 840.

Thanks to this reprogramming, together with the addition of “goodies” such as an aerodynamic kit, suspension upgrades, larger-diameter wheels and an exhaust system signed by AC Schnitzer itself, the vehicle now sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 305 km/h, even though it has been electronically limited to 250.

In any case, the appearance, with or without the vinyls and the strobe light kit, makes the AC Schnitzer BMW M850i look threatening, especially when seen in the rear-view mirror of another car.
