The universal combustion engine that can run on any fuel is manufactured by Cummins.

Recent developments in the automotive industry are calling for more sustainable and electrified mobility. Many voices do not want combustion engines to disappear, which is why Cummins has developed a universal internal combustion engine capable of running on any type of fuel. This would represent a very important technological advance for the industry. As you surely know, the future of combustion engines is up in the air because regulations are becoming increasingly strict.

2035 is the year the European Union has chosen for ending the sale of cars with combustion engines. Now, it is possible that many car manufacturers will bet on this type of universal combustion engine that can run on any fuel. This technological advance could be a lifesaver for some brands and may even give combustion engines a few additional years of life, especially for road transport.

Cummins

The universal combustion engine that can run on any fuel developed by Cummins uses the same key blocks and components, from the top gasket down. However, it is important to mention that the upper part of the block is what actually adapts its components to the type of fuel that powers it. Likewise, the company in charge of its development has pointed out that there are three different engine series called B, L and X.

This new technology will allow the engine to run on diesel, synthetic diesel, natural gas and will even be able to handle hydrogen. It will be implemented in a block called B6.7, which is specially designed for agricultural or construction machinery. It has six cylinders, a turbo with variable geometry and power outputs ranging between 155 and 326 CV.

In fact, the really interesting thing about this is that a combustion engine has been developed that can run perfectly on diesel, synthetic diesel, natural gas, petrol, propane and even hydrogen. The end customer will be the one to choose the fuel that will power their new combustion block. That said, the fuel mode cannot be changed at any time. If for any reason the customer or user wants to switch fuels, some mechanical modifications would have to be carried out. What do you think of this new invention? Could it be the future of combustion engines?
