Muscle cars have until now been a part of the car world that was unknown to our continent. The eagerness felt in Europe to get closer to this kind of interesting car led some to import them from the United States. Some American brands heard our pleas and did what every European car enthusiast wanted, to be able to buy a muscle car in Europe.

This happened in 2015, the year in which Ford brought the quintessential pony car to our continent, the Ford Mustang. Following the success the American sports car enjoyed in these lands, Ford has decided to continue with the seventh generation of the Mustang. But behind this automotive icon there is a lot of history, and today we bring you a video showing all of its generations.

The first Mustang debuted in 1964 and the American public loved it. It arrived with a six-cylinder inline engine under its hood, but a year later came the all-powerful Shelby GT350. This more radical version of the Mustang featured a powerful 4.7-litre V8 engine that delivered 306 CV and was a huge success. By March 1965 Ford had already sold one million units, and that was only the beginning.

It was in 1969 that the fabulous MACH I came to light. It consisted of a special package for the Mustang, giving it a much more sporty and aggressive look. Inside, it had a V8 engine delivering 335 CV and impressive performance for the era.

The 1964 Mustang remained essentially unchanged, apart from minor updates, for ten years. In 1974 the second generation of the muscle car reached the market. It was presented as a smaller and less aggressive car. The American brand sacrificed some of its styling in exchange for better consumption and a more luxurious interior. The engines also suffered this reduction, and it was launched with four-, six- and eight-cylinder powerplants.

This generation also brought a more radical version, as usual called Shelby. It was the first Mustang to feature the “5.0” badge on its flank and became a true benchmark for the American sports car. This second version of the Mustang was the best-selling one, and thanks to the revenue it generated, its successors were able to see the light of day.

The seventh generation of the Ford Mustang is about to arrive in our market and extraordinarily maintains the essence and philosophy of its first version. In the video accompanying this article we can see what the Mustang was like and what it has become, and we hope to keep enjoying many more versions of the pony car.
