The Japanese brand Toyota, a global leader in the commercialisation of electric models, is not willing to stop innovating in the field of sustainable, zero-emission mobility. This time, it has reached an agreement with Repsol with the aim of promoting net zero-emission technologies to contribute to decarbonisation by expanding hydrogen-based mobility.

Within the framework of this alliance, Repsol will provide fleet customers of Toyota fuel-cell vehicles with a comprehensive hydrogen refuelling solution. This solution will be developed over the coming years, adapting to the needs of each customer.

Both companies are committed to hydrogen-based mobility. Initially, they want to test its performance through professional fleets and later it will expand as the market grows. In order to promote this new form of mobility, those customers who plan to join the decarbonisation effort by purchasing fuel-cell models from Toyota will be able to access renewable hydrogen at the network of supply points that Repsol plans to install at its main petrol stations on the Peninsula.

Under the vision “Let’s Go Beyond“, Toyota aims to achieve a connected, emission-free society based on hydrogen. The electrification roadmap of Toyota seeks to establish electrified technologies as the foundation of mobility in order to achieve a society without CO2 emissions. Toyota works closely with companies that share these goals in order to promote efficiency and minimise environmental impact.

The future of mobility: hydrogen

Hydrogen is presented as a clean and sustainable energy source that can be used in different areas, from freight transport to home heating. In addition, hydrogen offers a higher energy density than batteries, which makes it a promising option for decarbonisation.

Toyota has released more than 5,600 patents related to hydrogen in recent years, allowing other manufacturers to use this technology without paying royalties. The company also collaborates with other brands in the sector and with public and private entities to promote the use of hydrogen as the main energy source in the coming decades.

For its part, Repsol has set itself the goal of becoming a net zero-emissions company by 2050. With the intention of driving and expanding its renewable energy business, the circular economy, energy efficiency, renewable hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage technologies. The company has a solid renewable hydrogen strategy and expects to reach an installed capacity of 1.9 GW by 2030, with estimated investments of 2,549 million euros.
