Volkswagen Golf Country: this is how they bring back the legendary off-road

A vehicle preparation company specializing in 4 x 4 has unveiled a kit to turn a Volkswagen Golf R into a version of the Golf Country.

Volkswagen Golf R Tuning Delta 4x4

In 1989, Volkswagen launched a rather special car, the Montana. A few months later the Volkswagen Golf Country was launched, an off-road version of the compact that was only on the market for two years. Very few units of this variant were built, which totalled 7,735 units. Now this model is set to return to the market, but not from the brand itself; it comes from the independent tuner Delta 4×4.

This specialist in the 4×4 world has worked on a Volkswagen Golf R, to which they have added several elements that aim to restore the look intended for sandy tracks of that classic model. That said, no vehicle has yet left their workshops with this look, and what we see is a virtual model that has not yet been produced. When it reaches production, we will see very few units.

That said, the details that will make up this model’s configuration are known, and we can learn what the car’s presentation will be like. It will feature a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine. This engine delivers 320 CV in the standard version of the model, which can reach 333 CV in the special Golf R 333 Limited Edition.

The conversion kit will include a ride height increase of 80 mm. This will give a ground clearance more typical of an SUV. To enhance that image, 18-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres will be used. There are also wider and larger wheel arches and mudguards, so the look is complemented throughout.

At the front, five LED auxiliary lights from PIAA have been installed, which will provide additional light for driving off-road. A roof rack has also been fitted to carry everything needed for the adventure. And, apart from the vinyls to be applied to the doors, the rest of the parts come directly from the Golf R, so we are looking at a bolder version, yet one in which the model it is based on can still be clearly seen.

The tuner is willing to produce 25 units of this variant, if there is sufficient interest. The price of the kit installed on the vehicle will be 35,000 euros, although the car itself, which is not included in the price, must be taken into account.
