Toyota Auris Hybrid: buy now or wait for the 2019 version?
Toyota is launching the latest revision of the Auris range before the new generation of this model reaches the market. Is it worth buying or better to wait for the 2019 Auris?
Toyota calls it the “new 2019 Auris”, but what they have just presented is actually the latest update of the model unveiled in 2015, which will make way for a new generation of the Toyota Auris at the end of this year or early next year. Its successor was presented at the recent Geneva Motor Show; here you can see the images of the Toyota Auris 2019 and the first details about this car.
Until the new generation of the Auris arrives for 2019, Toyota is presenting a light update of the current model, which will now only be offered in hybrid version
While this new Auris is on its way, the current range is being renewed and will only keep the hybrid version, available both as a 5-door body and as an estate, called the Auris Touring Sports, which represents a price increase of around 1,250 euros over the 5-door. The diesel and petrol versions therefore disappear. Don’t look for many more changes, because there aren’t any.

Basically, what Toyota is doing is adapting the Auris Hybrid to the new WLTP homologation cycle, which means the official average consumption goes from 3.5 l/100 km to 4 l/100 km. A new two-tone bodywork finish option is also added, combining blue with a black roof, although it can only be ordered with the Feel! Edition trim.

In fact, this Feel! Edition version of the Auris is the most recommendable if you are thinking of buying the current model. Its price with discounts starts at 20,300 euros, just 560 more than the basic Active trim (there is an Auris Business, but aimed at fleets). It adds 17-inch alloy wheels with a two-tone finish, darkened rear windows, black mirror housings, a photochromic interior mirror and a boot with a double floor. All versions (except the Business) include the Toyota Safety Sense package as standard, which includes, among other things, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and a pre-collision safety system.
Should I wait for the new Toyota Auris 2019?
If you are in a big hurry to change cars, you are looking for a hybrid – or a compact that uses little fuel – and you have set your sights on the Toyota Auris, the version currently on sale remains very interesting. It is well equipped and has a competitive price, as is fitting for a car at the end of its commercial life, with constant promotions.

But if you can wait, our advice is to keep an eye on the new Auris 2109. It will cost a bit more, although it will surely have launch promotions. And you get a car that is not a restyling; we are talking about a generation change, with a completely new platform, a more modern design and more interior space. In addition, two hybrid versions will be offered: the most basic with the 1.8 L HEV and 122 CV already used in the Toyota Prius and the Toyota C-HR, and a second, more powerful one with a 2.0L HEV engine, for which 180 CV is announced.
