Toyota GR Corolla 2023: 300 CV of pure power for the compact
The new version of the Toyota Corolla stands out from the rest with power that nearly doubles the original and offers much more complete equipment.

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best-selling and most popular cars in the world, but it is not what you would call a “fun car”. That was true until now, because the GR version comes into play to offer considerably more outstanding performance than the previous versions.
When it comes to the engine, the standard version features a four-cylinder, 4.0-litre unit that delivers 168 CV and 251 Nm of torque. But this new variant wants to spice up the driving experience, and raises the power to 300 CV, with peak torque set at 370 Nm.

Power to take on its rivals
This power almost doubles that of the standard model and places it in line with the power offered by other similar models, such as the Volkswagen Golf R, which it surpasses by just 15 CV. The power produced by the 1.6-litre three-cylinder turbo engine is sent to all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. The traction system allows a torque split of 60:40, 50:50 and 30:70, so it can cope with any traction requirement.

In terms of design, the use of aluminium keeps the weight low and under control. At 1,474 kg, it is only 85.7 kg heavier than the base model. The TNGA-C platform has been modified to shape this variant, using more spot welds and structural adhesive, which give it greater rigidity at the joints.
The suspension is more effective in this variant, as it has been reinforced to deliver the greatest possible performance. The addition of front and rear limited-slip differentials offers greater safety and efficiency. The wheels are 18-inch and are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres.
The wheels are equipped with brakes with aluminium calipers and four pistons. The front discs are ventilated and measure 365 mm, while the rear brakes have two pistons and measure 297 mm.
Renewed interior
The instrument cluster will feature a 12.3-inch screen and provides all the information needed about driving data. In addition, it will have an 8-inch screen to control the infotainment system. The sports seats are upholstered in fabric with grey stitching.
The metallic pedals, the eight-speaker audio system and the sports steering wheel wrapped in leather are among the other elements that make up the vehicle’s interior.
Technology on board
In addition to all this, the Toyota GR Corolla will come with driver assistance systems, grouped under the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 umbrella. It includes features such as blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert and many others, which enhance safety while driving.
Prices have not yet been revealed, but they are expected to be available soon so that anyone wanting to get behind the wheel of this souped-up compact can plan ahead.
