Toyota GR Supra AC Schnitzer: a muscle boost for the Japanese sports car

AC Schnitzer has taken advantage of the fact that the Toyota GR Supra was co-developed with the BMW Z4 to launch a tuning package for the Japanese sports car

AC Schnitzer is a tuner with a strong kinship to BMW, and we are used to seeing it push models from the Munich brand to the limit. However, it has just unveiled its version of the Toyota GR Supra, which comes as no surprise, since the Japanese sports car was developed side by side with the German brand.

We have already seen all kinds of modifications from Japanese companies, such as the Toyota GR Supra TRD, or American ones, such as the 750-horsepower Hyperboost Edition presented at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

However, the fact that AC Schnitzer has modified the Toyota GR Supra that our colleagues at Highmotor tested a few months ago means the door has now been opened in the European continent. According to the company’s website, “the BMW technology incorporated in the car allows us to integrate our technology into a Toyota model for the first time“.

How does the Toyota GR Supra AC Schnitzer differ?

Under the bonnet of the Japanese sports car we find the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine producing 340 horsepower, that is, exactly the same unit as the BMW Z4 M40i.

The fact that the BMW roadster was the donor for the Toyota GR Supra means AC Schnitzer can work its magic with full knowledge of the platform. In this way, power has been raised to 400 horsepower, giving buyers the assurance of a 36-month warranty.

Another modification is the exhaust system, as new, sportier silencers have been fitted so that the six cylinders can breathe at full capacity. In addition, the tuner allows the customer to choose the finish, so they have a circular design and can be finished in stainless steel or carbon fibre.

A more aggressive look

Furthermore, AC Schnitzer has added two new 20-inch wheel designs to its catalogue. It also makes no secret of the generous black front lip, the new carbon-fibre spoiler, the side skirts and the oversized rear diffuser.

The interior also receives some updates, as both the pedals and the gearshift paddles are now aluminium, and the centre console adds even more carbon fibre to what the standard Toyota GR Supra already has.

It has not only been about enhancing the engine and exterior design. The Toyota GR Supra AC Schnitzer has swapped the standard suspension for a height-adjustable one to bring the car closer to the tarmac. As a result, the centre of gravity has been lowered by 25 mm.

In addition, the tuner promises that this new suspension system will not have the driver’s teeth rattling over every pothole, as it has sought a balance between good dynamic behaviour and ride comfort.

So here we have the new Toyota GR Supra AC Schnitzer, a quality tuning package for those who find the standard model not quite enough.
