VÄTH gets its hands on the Mercedes CL 500

Perhaps one of the cars that needs tuners the least to look far more attractive is the CL-Class from Mercedes-Benz, a luxury coupe of the kind that is no longer built and which has personally had me hooked since it arrived on the market several years ago.
Even so, there are tuners such as VÄTH who insist on giving a more sporty edge to models like this stately coupe, something that a model whose price ranges from €137,950 for the most affordable version up to more than €250,000 for the CL65 AMG does not need at all. Still, I’m sure more than a few people will like it, because, as the saying goes, to each their own.

As for the preparation itself, on the outside we find new details such as black paint over the entire bodywork, a feature common to all of this tuner’s projects, complemented by huge 20-inch alloy wheels from the house with the centre painted in the same colour as the bodywork. To top it all off, it’s worth highlighting the fitting of a new rear diffuser and tinted rear windows.
Inside, new details include carbon fibre inserts where there was once top-quality wood, and a new speedometer meant to replace the original, now showing a top speed of 360 km/h, a figure far from the 290 km/h that VÄTH says this CL500 is capable of reaching.
Mechanically, the 5.5-litre V8 of this pre-restyling CL500, which originally produced 388 horsepower, has raised its output to a more than considerable 460 horsepower and 600 Nm of peak torque, thanks to electronic improvements, air filters and the fitting of a new sports exhaust. This gives us a pre-restyling CL500 with performance superior to that of the current model, which “only” offers 435 horsepower from the new 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8.
