Vehicle production rises 2.6% in January 2026
Spanish vehicle factories have seen a slight increase in January compared with the same period of 2025, although it has not yet fully recovered.

For several years now, vehicle production in our country has fallen due to various factors. However, it seems that in recent months this trend has begun to change, and the automotive industry appears to be recovering slowly but surely.
During January, Spanish plants recorded a 2.6% increase, with output reaching 173,406 vehicles. It is worth noting that the assembly lines have had to adapt to the production of electrified vehicles. This has allowed them to reach a production level that is approaching what it was before 2020.

Higher production in 2026
This increase in production is recorded for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. In the first case, 136,680 units were manufactured, representing 2.8% more than in the same period of the previous year. As for commercial vehicles, 36,726 units were produced, that is, 2.3% more than in January 2025.
Regarding exports, January saw a 0.8% increase compared with the same period of 2025. In total, 146,283 units left our country, destined for various international markets. Of these, 91.8% went to European countries, although this marks a slight decrease of 0.4% compared with 2025.

The other destinations saw a rise in exports, but a very limited one, between 0.1% and 0.2% growth in international sales. In first place is Germany, with 23,350 units exported. France received 22,638 units from Spain, and the United Kingdom ranks third with 19,928 units. Further down is Italy, which recorded the largest increase compared with 2025, with a 3.8% rise.
Types of vehicles
By vehicle type, those using alternative fuels and electricity saw a 12.9% increase compared with January 2025. This represents a total of 73,642 units, that is, 42.5% of January’s vehicle production.
Looking only at electrified vehicles, 17,574 units were produced, slightly fewer than in January 2025. The share of battery electric vehicles produced in Spain was 10.1% during that month. In the case of plug-in hybrid vehicles, about 1,000 more were produced. In total, 9,363 vehicles of this type were manufactured, an increase of 9.2% over January 2025.
Full hybrid vehicles saw a 23% increase, which shows that the electrification of the car offer continues to grow steadily.
