Video: the Ferrari Purosangue caught again, along with its sound

The Ferrari Purosangue has once again been caught on video, this time accompanied by a sound that hints at the presence of a V12 engine.

The Ferrari Purosangue is, quite literally, everywhere. The Italian brand is usually on everyone’s lips, but these days even more so given the development of its first SUV. For months we have seen different test mules of the Purosangue disguised with the bodywork of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso and, finally, with that of the Maserati Levante, its close cousin. True, not long ago we saw the Italian SUV again wearing the body of the now-retired GTC4Lusso, but today it has been caught in SUV form and delighting us with its melody.

For now, and as is customary, the styling of the Ferrari Purosangue remains a mystery to us, although given all the details it shares with the Maserati Levante, we can guess they will be fairly similar. However, what really matters today is the sound of the Italian SUV, an aspect that sheds considerable light on the car.

Until now, it had been predicted that the Purosangue would use a more politically correct engine, a turbocharged V8 or even a V6 with hybrid technology. However, the sound this test mule lets us enjoy matches neither a V8 nor a V6 from the brand, but rather that of a V12, a configuration that was beginning to be considered extinct once production of the 812 Superfast ends.

If we are right, we would be talking, almost certainly, about a turbocharged V12 with hybrid or mild-hybrid technology. In that way, the Ferrari Purosangue would produce close to 800 CV, a figure that until now was reserved exclusively for the purest supercars from the Cavallino Rampante brand.

At the same time, rumours also point to the arrival of a second, more “restrained” engine, just as with the Ferrari GTC4Lusso. It would be a V8 engine -the same one used in the Ferrari Roma- with more than 600 CV, which would allow it to take on one of its main rivals directly: the Lamborghini Urus.

Be that as it may, the Ferrari Purosangue promises to be one of the most anticipated launches of 2022. In the meantime, we will eagerly await the final bodywork so we can try to appreciate more details of what will very likely become the fastest SUV on the face of the earth.
