Video: the McLaren 765LT produces more power than claimed

Today we bring you a video in which a McLaren 765LT is taken to a dynamometer, a model that produces more power than claimed.

Every so often we come across cars that are faster than we thought, which leads us to try to find out whether they really produce more power than claimed. A similar case was that of the Toyota GR Yaris, a model found to produce more CV than the brand indicated on its spec sheet. Today, however, we face a truly surprising case, since it has been discovered that the McLaren 765LT, the most radical and sporty variant of the 720S, actually produces more power than the manufacturer claims.

Let us recall that McLaren already subjected the 720S to a major tweak in every respect to develop an even more capable and radical vehicle. It seems, however, that the engineers in Woking did their job too well, giving birth to an even faster car.

Let us recall that the McLaren 765LT boasts a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that, in theory, delivers 765 CV and 800 Nm of torque, as its name indicates. Add to this a much more refined aerodynamic package and a significant weight reduction, which allows the English supercar to claim a 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h.

However, the owner of one unit, consumed by curiosity, decided to take his supercar to a dynamometer. There, the McLaren 765LT initially registered 770 CV, compared with the 659 CV that a 620S produced on the same dynamometer. It should be noted that this is the power reaching the wheels after all losses, but what about the rest of the power?

Taking into account the power of the McLaren 765LT reaching the crankshaft, we arrive at 885 CV, a figure well above the one declared by the manufacturer. The English supercar has become one of the fastest in its segment, although we must bear in mind that the unit in the video was running 100-octane petrol, which is worth considering.

In this way, we are looking at one of the most powerful and fastest vehicles in the history of McLaren. Since the 765LT is surely not the only car hiding more power under its bonnet, there may be many other pleasant surprises; though beware, because in some cases the opposite can happen.
