Video: this is what the future Ford electric Mustang could look like
Ford continues with the “purification” of its model range, and the next one to fall for it could be the Ford Mustang.
We won’t deny it: after the official presentation of the Ford Mustang Mach-E, many of us thought that this kind of powertrain could one day reach the Ford Mustang. And, thinking it over coolly, the house of the oval is one of the few that still keeps a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 in its range. But strict European regulations rule, and this could force Ford in the not too distant future to give up, much to our regret, this wonderful engine in favour of an electric or hybrid powertrain.
TheSketchMonkey, an American designer who has taken the liberty of offering his version of that possible fully electric Ford Mustang, has had the same thought. For now, the company has not revealed anything about the next generation of its muscle car and, although it could happen as with the Chevrolet Corvette and it could remain loyal to the naturally aspirated engine, everything points to a slightly different Ford Mustang in terms of its powertrain.
But setting speculation aside, we must praise the work of this designer, who has masterfully translated the features of the Ford Mustang Mach-E onto the standard Ford Mustang. With this premise, we find a vehicle carrying the characteristic muscular figure of the Mustang but styled according to the new design canons that the Mach-E has introduced into the Ford family.
The front no longer has any openings designed for cooling, due to that hypothetical condition of being an electric vehicle. The LED headlights are elongated, thin and slender, features complemented by a closed-off front end and an imposing splitter. The side, for its part, says no to traditional door handles in order to benefit aerodynamics and integrates a new opening system already seen on the Mustang Mach-E.
This culminates in a wide, rugged rear wheel arch -which stands out after inheriting the wheels of the Shelby Mustang GT500- and gives way to the rear. This rear begins with the typical drop of the C-pillar due to the fastback body and nods to that new design language through taillights identical to those of the first electric Ford. Of course, the bumper says goodbye to the exhaust outlets but keeps playing with a rather suggestive diffuser.

As for the powertrain, we find it hard to predict with any certainty the plans of Ford for the Ford Mustang, but if it bets on an electric motor we can be sure it will be something worthy of the muscle car par excellence. Whatever happens, we can only wait for the American company’s next moves and discover the future that awaits the Mustang in this new automotive context we are living through, which will endure whether we like it or not.
