Volkswagen Scirocco vs Peugeot RCZ

On this occasion we have to thank Tiff Needell, presenter of Fifth Gear, for this excellent video in which they have decided to pit on the circuit two of the most striking compact coupés currently available on the market: one from the cold Bavarian lands and its rival designed in the warm France.

As for the Bavarian car, you will surely remember the magnificent Volkswagen Scirocco. On this occasion the chosen one is the model equipped with the 1.4 TSI engine capable of delivering 160 CV, an engine that has won many awards thanks to its forceful power and supposed reliability.

On the other hand, we have one of the French products that is gaining the most traction thanks to very inspiring and attractive lines, such as those presented in the Peugeot RCZ, a truly exclusive coupé that hides under its bonnet a very performance-oriented engine developed jointly with BMW. As you will know, we are talking about the new 1.6 THP capable of developing 156 CV thanks to the help of a turbocharger.

As you can see, the duel is extremely even since both engines deliver practically the same power, both cars accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.0 seconds and have a declared top speed of 217 km/h for the Scirocco and 218 km/h for the RCZ. On the other hand, the test vehicles were equipped with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive, and they have 240 Nm of peak torque delivered between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm.

The result? According to Tiff Needell, a technical tie, since both take practically the same time, although according to the experienced driver the Volkswagen Scirocco has better handling, being less prone to understeer, and offers a much more natural driving position than the one provided by the Peugeot.
