Volkswagen Touran: 20 years of innovation and a benchmark MPV
This model, one of the MPVs still present in the European market, celebrates 20 years on the market and is renewed with new equipment and technology.

The Volkswagen Touran hit the market in 2003. Its aim was to be “more than a family car”, with versatile features that marked significant improvements in this type of vehicle. It is therefore a vehicle aimed at the family, but also at leisure, business and everyday use. In 2015 the second generation arrived and the compact MPV changed considerably, improving all its performance.
In this second generation it was built on the brand’s MQB platform. This allows the MPV to benefit from improvements in equipment and technology. This is the most important part of the latest update the model has received to celebrate 20 years on the market.

More technology, more safety
As standard, the Volkswagen Touran offers adaptive cruise control (ACC) with speed limiter, the Front Assist emergency braking system, Lane Assist lane departure warning and the Side Assist lane change system. These systems are linked to the MQB platform and have been added to the MPV.
The proactive occupant protection system PreCrash has also been implemented. It uses the Side Assist sensors to detect the position and speed of vehicles travelling behind the car and, if there is a risk of collision, it activates to avoid or minimise the damage.

Another way the Volkswagen Touran detects obstacles is the multi-function camera, which captures images around the vehicle and identifies any immediate risk. As an option, the IQ.DRIVE and IQ.LIGHT systems are included. With these safety systems, more ADAS elements are included to improve driving and make it much safer. Travel Assist2 allows effortless driving thanks to all the ADAS systems it includes.
The Dynamic Light Assist dynamic headlight assistant also helps make road lighting more efficient and gives the driver more light while driving in low-light conditions.
More equipped interior
Inside, a capacitive steering wheel of the latest generation has been fitted. A customisable 8-inch instrument cluster has also been added. Touch controls for the climate control are optional, but they improve control of this important element. Other optional features include hands-free tailgate opening and keyless entry.
Improved engine
The 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine has been improved with the addition of the TSI evo2 engine. It delivers 150 CV and saves fuel while producing fewer polluting emissions. It can run on alternative fuels and incorporates the ACTPlus Active Cylinder Management system, an emissions control module located near the engine, and the modern TSI-Evo combustion process.
Interior comfort
The Volkswagen Touran still offers the option of seating five or seven people. In the rear, one to three child seats can be fitted, all with the ISOFIX system, which is also present in the third row of seats. The boot reaches a capacity of 1,980 litres with the seats folded down. In addition, there are 47 storage options in the vehicle, so there are plenty of options for long trips and everyday use.
