Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge: up to 60 km more range for the electric SUV
The Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge range receives new-generation electric motors in both the new rear-wheel-drive versions and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions, improving range and charging times

Two of the issues that concern users who are considering switching to electric mobility are now being addressed by Volvo in its XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge range: range and charging time. The Swedish brand announces the arrival of new versions with a single motor and rear-wheel drive, improved range and faster charging times.
As a curious note, with these new versions, Volvo once again has a rear-wheel-drive model in its lineup for the first time in 25 years. Furthermore, the electric motor powering these rear-wheel-drive versions is an in-house development by the brand, which is following its roadmap to become a manufacturer that will only sell fully electric models from 2030 onwards.
Volvo XC40 and C40 Single Motor: up to 533 km of range
The new “Single Motor” variants, with a single motor on the rear axle delivering 175 kW (238 CV), replace the front-wheel-drive Single Motor versions, which have only lasted a little over a year in the range. The motor delivers 5 kW more, although the 69 kWh battery capacity is retained. Best of all, the improved efficiency of the cooling system, in addition to the new motor, allows greater efficiency, increasing range from 425 km to 460 km on the XC40 Recharge Single Motor, and from 438 to 476 km on the coupé-style bodied variant, the C40 Recharge.

In both cases, buyers can also opt for an Extended Range version, in which the motor delivers 180 kW (252 CV) and the battery capacity increases to 82 kWh. In these versions the XC40 reaches up to 515 km of range, while the C40 can travel up to 533 km on a single charge, according to the WLTP standard. In both cases, the maximum DC charging power accepted by the electric SUVs increases from 150 kW to 200 kW, allowing a charge from 10 to 80% in under half an hour at a fast-charging station.
The improvements also affect the dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions, which replace the 150 kW motors previously used on both axles with newly developed motors, delivering 183 kW on the front axle and 117 kW on the rear axle. With the 82 kWh battery, these versions increase range up to 500 km for the XC40 and up to 507 km for the C40, an improvement of 62 and 56 km respectively.
