Voyah Dreamer, the new electrified Chinese minivan that offers luxury and space

The Dongfeng brand aimed at the premium sector is set to offer a luxurious minivan with plenty of comfort for its customers in 2022

Although in Europe the era of minivans is already over, or at least that is how it seems, in China it remains a very popular type of vehicle. The brand Voyah is in charge of the premium segment of Dongfeng, one of the largest manufacturers in the country, and it has just presented a minivan aimed at Chinese families. And since it is a Premium brand, the Dreamer minivan offers luxury in every respect.

This minivan was already presented at the Guangzhou Motor Show earlier this year and will go on sale in 2022. Its exterior features a pronounced bonnet, sliding doors to improve access to the interior, large glazed surfaces, and chrome details that give it a more attractive look. But if there is one thing this model stands out for, it is its front grille.

It repeats the formula we have seen in BMW. That is, we find a large grille that gives a very aggressive look, which puts it on the map very effectively. Its front will certainly be easy to spot and identify. At the rear it has a flat appearance, with horizontal rear light clusters and a sporty rear bumper design.

The minivan is quite a respectable size. A length of 5,315 millimetres, a width of 1,980 millimetres and a height of 1,810 millimetres, with a wheelbase of 3,200 millimetres, guarantee good interior space for four occupants. It is built on the Electric Smart Secure Architecture (ESSA) platform, which it shares with the Voyah Free SUV.

Comfortable and luxurious interior

The interior is based on those found in luxury saloons. The digital display covers the entire dashboard surface, and the 2 + 2 configuration offers plenty of comfort to the occupants. The seats are individual and offer heating and ventilation. They also have a massage function with a folding footrest.

Between the two rear seats there is a touchscreen to control all these features, and there is an entertainment system with a six-speaker sound system. There is also an ambient lighting system, and the panoramic roof provides pleasant natural light during the day.

Engine and batteries

The Voyah Dreamer will be available in electric and plug-in hybrid versions. As for the battery and motors, the equipment details have not yet been revealed. The Free SUV features an 88 kWh battery pack and two electric motors producing 510 kW, equivalent to 684 CV. Maximum torque is 1,040 Nm in the electric version with front-wheel drive.

If this drivetrain is confirmed, Voyah’s premium minivan will be one of the most powerful on the market. This model is not expected to reach Western markets, but given how many models from Chinese brands are coming out of China, it would not be surprising if its export to our market were announced soon.
