What will we see at the Sema Show 2019?
The Sema Show 2019 will open its doors on November 5 in Las Vegas and, although a few days are still to go, we bring you a preview of the eccentricities that will be on display at the event.
The Sema Show is possibly the most important show of modified cars in the world, which is why last year we brought you a summary of the most spectacular builds at Sema 2018.
There are only a few days left before the Sema Show 2019 opens its doors, and it will be open to the public from November 5 to 8. Therefore, the tuners are putting the finishing touches on their creations with the aim of surprising the public and the jury. However, some sketches of what attendees will be able to see at the Las Vegas Convention Center have been revealed. So here is a small preview to whet your appetite:
A small preview of the Sema Show 2019
Baja 911
The first of the sketches to be revealed was the Baja 911, a project being developed in the workshops of Russell Built Fabrication, in California. You may not know it, but if we tell you that it was founded by the founder of Singer, you may start to get an idea.
The base used is that of a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet from 1991. However, its “Baja” name is not without reason: it will be an off-roader inspired by the most extreme rally cars, so it features body panels to make it much more aggressive and a roll cage. Singer already has experience modifying classic Porsche 911s while respecting their original DNA, so this Baja 911 remains completely recognizable.
The changes are not merely cosmetic: its weight has been reduced by no less than 181 kilograms and its 3.8-litre flat-six engine has been boosted to deliver 100 additional CV. Moreover, the good news is that the company is going to produce a limited run of the Baja 911, so the most privileged will be able to take one home to their garage.
Ruffian Mustang
The Ford Mustang is one of the most popular classics in the United States, so we can be sure it will be one of the most widely used bases at the Sema Show 2019. The Ruffian Mustang has been created by Chris Ashton and is based on a Ford Mustang Fastback from 1970.
However, it has been fitted with a bodykit handmade entirely by hand to turn it into a video game car. If it is as shown in the drawing, it will be painted in an original olive green and will feature 18- and 19-inch wheels with a gutter-style rim.
However, one of the peculiarities of the Ruffian Mustang is what lies under its bonnet, something that would make the very Henry Ford tear his hair out. The reason is that s its engine is a Chevrolet LS3, that is, the same one fitted to the Chevrolet Corvette, the number one enemy of the Ford Mustang.
Button Built Ferrari BB 355 TT
This will be one of the creations that attracts the most attention, because the base is no ordinary one: it is a full-fledged Ferrari F355 Berlinetta. As we can see in this drawing, the build may or may not appeal to you, but it is spectacular.
Its body kit could take it to the Italian touring car championship without any problem, since it has carbon fibre everywhere, a generous rear spoiler and a front diffuser with which you could cut your neighbour’s lawn. Moreover, its colour was not chosen lightly: it is the same “Azzurro la Plata” that dressed the Ferrari 275 GTB at Le Mans in ’67.
The original mechanicals, a 3.5-litre V8, have been modified with two enormous turbos to go from the 380 CV it produced from the factory to an intimidating 600 CV.
Toyota GR Supra Widebody
This car has been one of the most anticipated new releases this year, so we got behind the wheel of the Toyota GR Supra a few months ago. That is why we will see several units at the Sema Show modified to the maximum, such as the one TRD will be showing directly: the Toyota GR Supra 3000 GT Concept.
In this case, the specialist TRMNL has installed a competition bodykit , a spoiler that almost looks like an ironing board and aggressive side skirts. In addition, it features 19-inch Rays wheels fitted with slicks.
The engine developed by BMW has been reinforced to double its power, so the 340 CV of the model we tested – which were more than enough – have been raised to 672 CV and 846 Nm of torque, an absolute beast.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 5 Widebody
If you are a fan of the “Fast & Furious” saga, this Mitsubishi Lancer EVO V will have you dreaming about it tonight. It is based on the fifth generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and, as can be seen in the teaser, it has received a carbon fibre treatment to beef it up.
Under the bonnet, the engine has been “atomised” with a large turbocharger so that power climbs to 450 CV, along with an intercooler that occupies the entire central air intake of the front bumper.
Defconbrix Ford Bronco
The Sema Show will also feature SUVs, though not quite as we know them in Europe. This Ford Bronco has been modified so that it can climb the steepest slopes, and it has been fitted with a roll cage, long-range LED headlights and an impeccable red leather interior.
In addition, the original engine has been removed to make way for the delicious 450 CV 5.0 V8 fitted to the Ford Mustang GT, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox: a toy for grown-ups.
