Would you like there to be an Audi SQ2? ABT can turn your wishes into reality

Audi and ABT have once again joined forces to develop a radical variant of the Audi Q2, capable of producing up to 228 CV of power.

The SUV segment is being chosen to house all kinds of powertrains, from electric to the most radical. A clear example is Audi and its range of models, which has been expanded by the arrival of the new e-tron, a model that will share space with other high-performance SUVs such as the SQ7, SQ5 and the upcoming SQ8 and RSQ8. However, the four-ring brand has forgotten the smallest off-roader, the Q2. The brand’s most modest SUV has no S variant, something ABT could not allow, so it has decided to give free rein to its imagination and create its own version of what an Audi SQ2 could be.

To do so, the tuner has taken the small SUV to bring out and accentuate its hidden potential, thus allowing the Audi Q2 to compete with much more radical models. As is customary, ABT has not limited itself to mechanical improvements, but has also addressed the styling, so that its new, sportier spirit does not clash with the exterior appearance.

The first thing that catches our attention is the new suspension of the Audi Q2, which allows its body to be lowered by 40 mm, while also offering more dynamic behaviour. At the same time, ABT has taken the opportunity to change the wheels, which have been replaced with the German tuner’s own designs, available in sizes of 18 and 20 inches.

However, the styling is not the only thing that changes in the four-ring SUV, as the tuner has decided to modify two engines to widen the range of options. To be more precise, ABT has selected one diesel and one petrol engine to experiment with and bring out their maximum performance.

The diesel engine chosen by ABT is the 2.0 TDI, which produces 190 CV of power and 400 Nm of torque, but these figures are not enough for the tuner. After some fine-tuning and a series of modifications to the ECU, ABT has managed to extract up to 215 CV and 440 Nm of torque. In the case of the petrol engine, we find the same power as the diesel and 320 Nm of torque, figures that rise to 228 CV of power and 360 Nm of torque.

In this way, ABT has managed to create a reflection of what that hypothetical Audi SQ2 would be, a model that many enthusiasts of the brand would like to see. For the time being we do not know the prices of these modifications, but we are sure that many will head to the German tuner’s workshop to squeeze every last drop of sportiness out of the Audi Q2.
