You can now fit BMW's new grille to your E60 5 Series
The Chinese company Taobaois has just unveiled an adaptation of the M3 and M4 grille for the BMW 5 Series E60, a somewhat curious combination.
The ways of the motoring world are inscrutable, and if you doubt it, ask this Chinese company that has developed a most peculiar part for the BMW 5 Series E60. The Bavarian brand has sparked controversy over the design of its latest grilles, especially those fitted to the 4 Series and the sporty derivatives of it and the 3 Series. Although it has not caught on in many places, that is not the case in China, where people find it so appealing that they have managed to adapt it to the 5 Series E60, the generation of the German saloon that was retired some time ago.
Its name is Taobaois, and it mainly focuses on developing modern parts for models that are already obsolete. This practice is not exactly to our liking, but we understand that it is carried out because it works in markets such as China. So, no sooner said than done, it is now possible to give our E60 a very distinctive look.
The truth is that, although these kinds of adaptations rarely turn out too well, they seem to have been handled with care. We can see -though with rather poor image quality- a front end that fits well and works nicely with the lines of the 5 Series. It is true that aesthetically the whole thing looks strange, mainly because modern features are mixed with an older silhouette, but credit where credit is due.

If the M3 and M4 grille is too much for us, the Chinese firm offers a more discreet option. We can also opt for the front end of the M2 Competition which, although it still doesn’t quite sit right with the almost classic lines of the E60, doesn’t stand out as much as the large grille of its bigger siblings.
The rear is a mystery to us since no images of that area have been shared, but we assume there are no modifications there. Although it would be possible to adapt the diffuser of the current BMW M3 and M4, they have only chosen to use the front part.

Either way, this company firmly believes that fitting this grille can work remarkably well. It is probably not the only surprise Taobaois has in store, as it will likely be preparing new adaptations for BMWs from every era and giving them a touch of modernity. Whether we like it or not now depends solely on us.
