Zity is the new 'carsharing' service in Madrid thanks to Ferrovial and Renault

Madrid is preparing a long series of measures to fight pollution, above all by trying to reduce traffic from the most polluting cars through the city centre. Several companies have seized the opportunity and, luckily for everyone, they are offering alternatives to internal combustion cars so that people can keep driving even during the times of greatest traffic restrictions.

Ferrovial Servicios has teamed up with Renault to create yet another alternative to traffic in the city, by launching a carsharing service with electric models from the French brand. The geographical scope of the service will be confined to the area within the M-30 ring road, although they assure that several areas outside this ring will also be added, so a fairly extensive area will be covered.

The vehicle that will form part of the ZITY fleet is the Renault ZOE Z.E. 40, which has a range of 400 kilometres, allowing users to drive the car for longer distances and for more time. This is an advantage for this type of service, where trips may not cover much distance, since everything is urban, but the car is in use throughout the day.

Furthermore, it is a vehicle with five seats, as well as a spacious boot that makes it possible to carry parcels and meet any luggage transport need. Safety with this model comes with five-star Euro NCAP ratings, which makes it very suitable for driving in the city. In addition, the electricity stored in the ZOE’s batteries comes entirely from renewable energy sources, which is a plus point for a service of this kind.

With this fleet of around 500 electric vehicles, the service will give many users the possibility of getting around the city in a vehicle that produces no polluting emissions, even at those times when circulation is not permitted due to the restrictions imposed by Madrid City Council.
