A new Citroën C5 will arrive next year, in 2020

Not long ago it was reported that the Citroën C5 was going to disappear, and everything seemed set for the model to be replaced by another. In June, this model left the market, although the nameplate was kept in other markets. In fact, in the Chinese market the C5 Aircross has been sold, an SUV that will reach the European market at the end of 2018. Now the time has come to offer a new generation of the most attractive saloon from the French brand, which could have 2020 as its launch year.

Apparently, this new saloon will take over from the old one due to the lack of this type of car, which the brand has suffered since DS became an independent brand. According to Citroën’s CEO, Linda Jackson, when this split occurred the brand was left without several models. To overcome this hurdle, the PSA Group proposes up to eight variants of its passenger and light commercial models, which will reach the market gradually.

The Citroën C5 Aircross has a suspension system designed by the brand, which includes an air bump stop and replaces the older hydropneumatic suspension, which was more complex and heavier. The future Citroën C5 and the not yet confirmed C6 are also expected to use this redesigned suspension system. Interestingly, this new suspension will apparently only be fitted to Citroën cars and will not be included in other brands of the group, such as the recently acquired Opel.

The plans of the PSA Group have not changed with the incorporation of Opel into the brands managed by the group, so the brands seek to move forward with their plans, letting Opel continue on its path without worrying about the future of the new addition to the group. So we will have a new C5 saloon, which could be loosely based on the model shown in this news story, the concept car CXperience, so we may find a similar design.
