A street-registered Schuppan Porsche 962C in Japan
A Schuppan Porsche 962C in Japan, registered to be driven on the streets.

This Porsche 962C is one of those cars that we can’t understand how it could be registered and driven on the streets, but which surely has an easy explanation: with money, and by paying what they ask to register it, everything is possible.
But let’s set aside healthy envy and appreciate what it means for a Porsche 962C (which retired from winning endurance races in the early 90s) to be driving around the streets and used both to go to work and to go shopping at a store.
Not only would the sight of this same car make anyone on the road go pale, but so would what’s inside: a 2.7-litre inline-six with around 630 horsepower at 8,200 RPM and a five-speed gearbox with a KKK K26 turbo. However, while watching the video, something set off alarm bells that this was not an original racing 962C adapted for the streets; the name Schuppan was suspicious, so I remembered that former Australian racing driver Vern Schuppan had built his own road-going 962s, the CR-62.
Although Schuppan’s workshop of whims went bankrupt several years ago, it was not at all far-fetched that this would be a special model, and so it turned out to be; a kind of concept model, oddly fitted with the engine of the Porsche 956, the predecessor of the 962 on the track. This Porsche could well be one of the first cars Von Schuppan sent to Japan at 1.5 million dollars each.
What really matters here is that from watching the video to falling hopelessly in love with this Porsche there is a line as thin as a hair. Get ready and enjoy.
