A Tesla Model S takes on a Audi R8 in a drag race and the result will leave you amazed

The world of electric vehicles is arriving in our market, and they bring with them some very impressive novelties and performance. Tesla -one of the first brands to bring 100% electric vehicles to the market- has created several products with technical features typical of supercars. We can see this reflected in the video accompanying the article, in which a Tesla Model S P100D puts a whole Audi R8 in trouble.

The American firm has been operating since the beginning of the century, and over the years it has brought out a series of very impressive products. The first Tesla production model was the Tesla Roadster, and since then they have only grown. It was in 2012 that the brand’s first saloon saw the light of day and sparked the interest of the whole world.

The Tesla Model S was presented as a luxury electric-motor saloon and aimed to take the throne from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8. It arrived revolutionising the saloon segment, and the public loved what it saw. Its production has grown considerably over the years and now, rather than simply being sold, it has opened up to the European market.

Among its range of electric powertrains, you can choose from several batteries. The Tesla Model S is offered from the 75D version up to the P100D, which is the star of today’s video. The top-of-the-range option is the latter, which offers a 100 kWh battery and has a range of almost 600 kilometres. But that figure is not the only impressive one.

The P100D declares an output of 612 CV, surpassing many supercars on the market with combustion-engine propulsion. But it is not only the power that is up to the task, but also its performance. The Model S in its most radical version is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, entering the territory of the Bugatti Chiron. This is achieved thanks to the almost instantaneous delivery of torque, with 1,074 Nm available between 100 and 3,900 rpm.

Its rival in the video is no slouch either. It is a Audi R8 V10 Plus, which delivers 610 CV, practically the same as the Tesla. Its performance is also very impressive and it accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. In the video we can see both vehicles facing off in a drag race.

The Tesla gains a clear advantage at the start thanks to its torque delivery, but the powerful naturally aspirated V10 takes the lead halfway through the race, demonstrating great power across the entire rev range.
