About the BMW Z2

We have found new (and tentative) information regarding the future BMW Z2. On the one hand, there is speculation that 2014 will be the year of its commercial launch, which, in the opinion of Car Magazine, would be alarming. This reservation is based on the theory that the Z2 would be built on the front-wheel-drive UKL1 platform, with the loss of sportiness that this type of drivetrain entails. The proposed solution is to equip the vehicle with all-wheel drive, which would result in a BMW Z2 xDrive (or whatever BMW ends up calling it).

On the other hand, there is the possibility that the sale of the Z2 will be delayed until 2015 or 2016, by which time the rear-wheel-drive platform that the future Series 2 (the badge under which the coupé and convertible versions of the Series 1 will be sold) will use will be ready.

Regardless of the decision BMW makes, the Z2 will be offered in both closed and convertible versions, with a wide range of 2-litre petrol engines. The output of the base version will be 170 CV, and 272 CV in the most powerful version. Will we get a Z2M? It is too early to say.
