Alpine A110 Sports X Concept: the perfect tool for skiing
The Renault Group has unveiled a new prototype called the Alpine A110 Sports X Concept, a version designed for fun off the tarmac for the French sports car
The Alpine A110 brought back one of the most legendary sports cars in automotive history 40 years after its disappearance. With this project, the Renault Group has made us all tip our hats, since few models offer driving enjoyment like this French gem.
A few months ago we got to know the most radical version of the model, called Alpine A 110 S, a version that added an even spicier touch to the line-up, reaching 292 CV. This model made us all green with envy, but it had one problem: its price. In fact, we asked ourselves an interesting question: What can you buy for the price of an Alpine A110 S?
However, Alpine has teamed up with Dieppe to present something very different based on the French brand’s sports car. It is something like a SUV version of the Alpine A110, but not in the style of the Ford Puma we recently tested, we tell you about it.
The Alpine A110 Sports X Concept grows in every aspect
It is called Alpine A110 Sports X Concept and keeps all the aesthetics of the original model, but with a ground clearance 60 mm higher. One of the elements that helped the sports car grow are the huge wheels housed in the wheel arches, more typical of an SUV than a sports car. This increase in dimensions is so radical that the bodywork has been widened by another 80 mm so that they don’t stick out.
The modifications are not limited to the wheels: the Alpine A110 Sports X Concept also features metal underbody protection to cope with the sharpest stones.
Despite the aesthetic modifications, the guys at Renault Sport have not touched the mechanics, so it still uses the 1.8 TCe engine with 252 CV. Nor does its way of transmitting power to the ground change, so it keeps rear-wheel drive. With all this, few cars come to mind that could be more fun than this creation on a dirt or snow track.
In case you don’t see the practical side, this Alpine A110 Sports X Concept has ski racks attached to the rear window, so you’ll probably have more fun on the way to the resort than with the skis on.
As you can imagine, the Renault Group has no plans to put this model into production, but it would undoubtedly be a very interesting alternative. However, speculating a little, why not think that this could be a study by the diamond brand to gauge public acceptance of a sporty SUV?
