EX30 Volvo Electric Cars Crossovers
An OTA update enables V2L bidirectional charging on the Volvo EX30
Volvo has just announced the upcoming availability of a notable software update for its compact electric crossover, the EX30, which will enable bidirectional charging Vehicle-to-Load V2L. This functionality allows the vehicle to act as a large energy store from which to power external electronic devices, such as eBikes, power tools, sound equipment or camping accessories.
To enjoy this feature, once the vehicle’s software has been updated, owners of a Volvo EX30 will need to purchase a specific adapter that connects to the charging port. The Swedish manufacturer, under the control of Chinese giant Geely, plans to roll out this software update progressively starting next summer for all units of this compact electric crossover on the road.

Beyond this notable improvement, this software update will also enhance the vehicle’s infotainment system interface, making it more intuitive and modern. The menus and controls will receive a redesign, and a customisable quick-access bar will be added.
Bittersweet success of the Volvo EX30 globally
The EX30 has been on the market for barely two years, and in that time it has achieved considerable success in some markets such as Europe. Its launch has, however, been much more difficult in other markets such as the United States, as a result of import tariffs, and Volvo has also had to deal with some initial software problems with the vehicle.

Volvo has been progressively correcting these software problems referred to above, and with this update it seeks to reinforce one of the vehicle’s weak points, offering practical features and a smoother user experience to thereby improve its competitiveness in the market. Although the availability of all these improvements in some markets such as the United States has not been explicitly confirmed, it is expected that most of them, including V2L bidirectional charging, will arrive there as well.
