Ariel E-Nomad Concept, an electric two-seat off-roader arriving in 2026

This two-seat off-roader is very similar to the combustion-engined version presented a few weeks ago and will be ready in 2026.

A month ago the Ariel Nomad 2 was unveiled, a two-seat off-roader designed for having fun driving over difficult terrain, but now the brand has wanted to go a step further and has just presented the electric version. The Ariel E-Nomad Concept has all the features of this model, but with an electric drivetrain. This model is expected to reach the market in 2026.

It is not exactly the same as the ICE variant. In fact, it features a redesigned body made from a bio-composite material with recycled flax fibres. These new panels have been manufactured by Bamd Composites and are 9% lighter than those made from carbon fibre, although their production reduces polluting emissions by 73%.

In the design of this body, up to 30% of aerodynamic drag has been eliminated compared with the Ariel Nomad 2, without sacrificing downforce. This has been achieved by covering the tubular chassis and using a more practical roof that integrates the spare wheel at the rear.

As for the engine, this variant replaces the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine of Ford used in the other version with an electric Borg Warner eDM drivetrain that delivers a power output of 210 kW, equivalent to 281 CV, and a maximum torque of 490 Nm. This is sent to the rear wheels thanks to a limited-slip differential. The company claims that the performance of this motor is equivalent to that of the combustion-engine version. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is achieved in 3.4 seconds.

The propulsion system consists of the electric motor, the gearbox and a transmission unit with DX inverter and weighs 92 kg. The electric off-roader also features Ariel’s new ABS system, which has several driving modes and regenerative braking, which helps recharge the battery during deceleration.

The battery has a voltage of 450 volts with a capacity of 41 kWh, designed for this model by Rockfort Engineering. It has been installed behind the two-seat cabin and weighs 300 kg. It is made up of several high-density Pegasus V3 modules and features integrated cooling and heating systems.

This battery allows it to have a range of 240 kilometres, and it can be charged via direct current, with which it can charge from 20 to 80% in less than 25 minutes. This vehicle can be seen at the Cenex Expo 2024 on 4 September, although testing to refine the model’s details will continue after that date.

It is expected to reach the market in 2026 and will have a price of around £78,000. This is about £10,000 more than the combustion-engined Nomad 2.
