Ariel Hipercar: an electric beast approaching 1,200 CV of power

The most atomic creation from the British firm arrives with an electric motor of no less than 1,180 CV, a fighter-jet design and even a jet turbine

British manufacturer Ariel Motor Company has just unveiled its new Ariel Hipercar, a creation from another planet that looks more like a combat aircraft than a supercar, thanks to its design entirely focused on aerodynamics and its incredible power.

Although it cannot yet be considered a production vehicle, the company wants to make it the first production model to feature a jet engine, which, in addition to increasing its range, gives it a spectacular design.

ATOMIC

Beneath its carbon-fibre bodykit, studded with cooling intakes, prominent wings and various elements that keep it planted to the ground at high speeds, lies a reinforced aluminium chassis, a front and rear subframe, and a rollover structure that protects its occupants while offering even greater torsional rigidity.

As with most electric cars and especially supercars, the Ariel Hipercar has been developed to offer the lowest possible weight, so the brand will make forged wheels or carbon-fibre wheels available to customers as an option.

The 1,180 CV of power comes from four motors, one at each wheel, which allow it to produce a torque of 1,800 Nm and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.09 seconds and from 0 to 100 mph in 4.42 seconds, figures that are undoubtedly spectacular.

Ariel has also announced that these figures will be reserved for the most radical version, as there will also be a more “decaffeinated” option.

The secret of its turbine

Looking more closely at its jet turbine, Ariel has decided to fit it as a range extender, since it allows the 56 kWh battery to be recharged and thus offers even greater range than if the electric motors were fitted without any assistance.

For the time being, and as the company has confirmed, the Ariel Hipercar will not enter production until 2024, when it will be built at the factory in Somerset, England.
