Attention! SEAT will have its first hybrids and electric cars in 2019

We were expecting that SEAT would begin to move forward on its path and that, after its foray into the world of SUVs, it would show it is ready to face the challenges facing the automotive industry. One of the most important is the presence of hybrid and electric cars on the market. It is not a brand that stands out particularly for its drive towards innovation, as we already know, but we do know that its cars are practical and fulfil their purpose.

With the arrival of the Ateca and the announcement of the second SUV that will enter production shortly, it is breaking away from that image and will offer us more surprises in a very short time. Among those surprises we will find three projects that will use this hybrid and fully electric technology and that will arrive within two to three years.

According to Lucas Casasnovas, Head of Product Marketing, the first of them to arrive would be a fully electric version of the SEAT Mii, since it is a development that could be very similar to other small electric city cars from the Volkswagen group, such as the e-Up!. The second car to arrive could be a version of the Leon with plug-in hybrid technology.

Finally, we could be talking about a completely new electric car, designed from scratch and which would join the Spanish brand’s range with the technology that seems set to become the most efficient alternative to fossil fuels within a few months.

But all this development has a timeframe to be ready, so we will have to wait a little to see these models at dealerships. The first model will arrive in 2019, although we will have to wait until 2020 to have the full programme of electric and hybrid vehicles. These three models are part of Volkswagen’s plan to launch 30 models of this type in the coming years, so the parent company will support their development. Will we really get to see them?
