For those personalities, or other people, who require a special vehicle that can shield them from dangers that may affect their physical integrity, the Audi A8 L Security may be their car.

The Ingolstadt brand will show at the Frankfurt International Motor Show an evolution of its safest armoured saloon. It exceeds the criteria established in the VR 9 category for ballistic protection, which are the strictest in civil security applied to production cars.

The protection it offers doesn’t stop there: it has also been tested to withstand explosive charges in accordance with the guidelines of the ERV 2010 standard. Extremely resistant materials have been integrated into the safety cell. Aramid, special aluminium alloys and formed steels are part of it, which also helps achieve a lower weight with greater protective capacity.

The glazing of the new Audi A8 L Security has been developed by the engineers of the brand with the four rings. Through a collaboration agreement with the Neckarsulm plant and a specialist security manufacturer, whose identity is kept secret, each unit is manufactured under strict supervision.

Security is taken to the highest levels of demand, so the luxury saloon includes an armoured communications module in the luggage compartment, a system for communicating with the outside of the vehicle, and a selective door unlocking mechanism. To meet the requirements of any customer, Audi can, on request, satisfy them. Solutions such as the patented emergency exit system, a fire extinguishing equipment and an emergency fresh-air system can also be fitted.

It is equipped with quattro all-wheel drive, the only armoured luxury saloon of high security that is fitted with this drive system. The total weight of the vehicle is considerably reduced by the use of aluminium in parts of its chassis. It can carry a maximum payload of 600 kg.

Two engines are available to power this unique vehicle. The first is the 4.0 TFSI V8 twin-turbo engine producing 435 CV and the second is the naturally aspirated W12 FSI producing 500 CV. The top speed has been electronically limited to 210 km/h, since the type of tyres was taken into account, which, thanks to their properties, can run flat in emergency situations.

Orders are already being accepted for the Audi A8 L Security, whose first deliveries are scheduled for the beginning of spring 2016.
