Porsche presents us with the future of the automotive industry. Its name is Porsche Mission E Concept and it has just been presented at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. This is an electric sports car with four seats and four doors that has overshadowed everyone at the German brand’s stand in Frankfurt, even outdoing the Porsche 911 2016, the facelift of the famous sports car that was due to debut on this occasion.

This electric sports car delivers 600 CV of power and can cover a total of 500 kilometres on a single charge. The most interesting part is that it takes only 15 minutes to charge its battery to 80%, and it will power the two permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) that the Porsche Mission E Concept is equipped with. This system is similar to that of the Porsche 919 Hybrid, which won the last edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and with which it is capable of going from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and from zero to 200 in under twelve seconds.

Its performance is such that the German company claims it can lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in under eight minutes. The optimal weight distribution of the Porsche Mission E Concept helps in this mission, while also featuring a low centre of gravity thanks to the position of the state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, located between the front and rear axles.

The exterior design of the Mission E is bold and strongly inspired by the Porsche Panamera and the Porsche 918 Spyder. Its bodywork is made from a mix of aluminium, steel and reinforced carbon fibre, featuring smooth, rounded lines, well-defined wheel arches, four-point LED lights and vertical vents that help improve airflow.

The suicide-style doors are the signature of its body profile, and it also has no B-pillar. The 21-inch wheels at the front and 22-inch wheels at the rear are made of carbon fibre. Notable are the absence of exterior mirrors (replaced by cameras) and the LED rear lights, which form an exceptional design. A strip of light runs across the width of the bodywork, set on a black trim, while the word Porsche sits in the centre, in three dimensions and backlit.

Once inside the cabin of the Porsche Mission E Concept, we find four seats strongly inspired by the world of motorsport. The interior is spacious, given the lack of a transmission tunnel. The dashboard includes an LED screen and an instrument cluster with OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology made up of five spheres, as is customary for the manufacturer based in Stuttgart.

Technologically, we can highlight how advanced this Porsche concept car is. An eye-tracking system uses a camera to detect which of the instruments the driver is looking at, in order to activate the menu, which can be accessed by pressing a button on the steering wheel. Likewise, to improve comfort on board, the entire instrument cluster moves according to the seat position, so it always remains in view and is not obstructed by any other element.
