Audi R8 GT Spyder

If you were dreaming about a Spyder version of the Audi R8 GT, you can start getting used to the idea that you may soon even have the chance to get your hands on one, since, weeks after the first spy photos appeared, Audi has just officially announced the arrival on the global market of 333 units of the Audi R8 GT Spyder.
Logically, this new convertible variant has been built following the same philosophy Audi applied to the imposing Audi R8 GT, that is, seeking to reduce weight in each of its components. To achieve this, they have once again used what is known as carbon fibre reinforced polymer, magnesium and aluminium, enough to make this vehicle 85 kg lighter than its standard counterpart.

Aesthetically, the latest creation from Audi can be distinguished from its hard-top sibling solely by being a convertible, as well as by the engine cover, which is made of magnesium, while the engine lid, the soft-top cover and the rear fins are made of CFRP. Otherwise, as you can see in the official photographs, it keeps the same aggressive styling presented in the coupé version.
As for the interior, not many changes are expected compared with the closed version. Unfortunately, we don’t have many photos to check this, since Audi has only provided the three images you can see throughout this same post. Even so, perhaps the most distinctive feature is once again the installation of sports seats made from what Audi calls glass fibre reinforced polymer or GFRP.

Mechanically, as expected, Audi has once again relied on the 5.2-litre FSI V12 that is enjoying such success among its customers and which, as in the closed version, will deliver output of over 560 horsepower and 540 Nm of peak torque, enough for you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in your brand-new Audi R8 GT Spyder in just 3.8 seconds, or reach a top speed of 317 km/h.
That’s all for now. It seems we will have to wait until the Frankfurt Motor Show to learn more details about it. For the moment, no prices are known for the Spanish market, although in Germany this vehicle will cost a far from negligible 207,800 euros.
