Is the Barracuda coming back to take the place of the Dodge Challenger?

New rumors have emerged about the Chrysler Barracuda, though now they directly involve the Dodge Challenger, in what some say will bring about the end of the muscle car.

It is not the first time that winds of a return of another illustrious name from the muscle car ranks have blown. The truth is that the name Barracuda (like the Plymouth Barracuda) has been echoing in the headquarters of Chrysler since the end of 2010, a time when Chrysler bought the rights to use the name. On that occasion, it was considered as a possible companion to the Dodge Challenger.

However, the market has suffered a serious setback, and the Challenger has not taken down the Camaro or the Mustang. The Chrysler muscle car is stuck in third place in sales preferences, far behind its arch-rivals, and the idea now is possibly to replace the Challenger with the Barracuda, a sports car that could serve the interests of Fiat-Chrysler better, rather than serving as fuel for the dreams of muscle car lovers.

According to what has recently been said about the Barracuda, it would now be an alternative to replace the Challenger, and it won’t even use the same platform, but will be smaller and lighter than its predecessor. Incidentally, it could be sold by European partners in a better way than the Challenger A new Alfa Romeo or Lancia on the horizon?

Now, while it is said that the new Barracuda will arrive in 2014, we have the new Viper ahead of us, which will be presented within three months and would appear already as a 2014 model. Either the Viper will become the Chrysler muscle car (or rather, of SRT), or we go with the idea that the Barracuda will also be SRT, but much more refined and more Europeanized.
