BMW 225xe PHEV, the MPV that features the plug-in hybrid engine from the i8

We have already seen the BMW i8 and have witnessed, in several image and video galleries, what this hybrid model from the German brand is capable of. But what we could not have imagined is that they would dare to bring their innovative and powerful propulsion system to a family car. Well, they have, but by adjusting the power levels to a more acceptable range for the car it is fitted to. It is called BMW 225xe and although it does not reach the power of its bigger brother, it is a vehicle worth considering.
The combustion engine is a turbocharged three-cylinder block of 1.5 litres capable of delivering 136 CV, accompanied by an 88 CV electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which allows this model to deliver a total of 224 CV and a maximum torque of 385 Nm. To these figures we can add that it is an all-wheel-drive car, making it a vehicle that really catches the eye.

The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration stands at 6.7 seconds, with a top speed of 206 km/h. In terms of consumption, combined cycle figures of 2 and 2.1 litres per 100 kilometres are achieved, which places it in a very suitable range for responsible driving and for avoiding the problems seen in large cities regarding polluting gas emissions.
The range of this model in purely electric mode is rated at 41 kilometres, although the top speed in this case is limited to 125 km/h, which is not bad at all. The incorporation of this drive system will continue over the coming months to other models from the brand, as is the case with the BMW X1 and the upcoming crossover Mini Countryman.
