BMW announces an estimated EPA range for the iX3 of up to 400 miles

BMW has recently revised upwards the estimated range of the iX3, anticipating its upcoming debut in the North American market. The Bavarian manufacturer announced on its website -though only temporarily- that the xDrive50 version of its new electric SUV, based on the Neue Klasse, offers a range of up to 434 miles -almost 700 km- on a single charge. In this way, the new iX3 would join a small club of electric models with over 400 miles of range.

As we said, this announcement was only temporary, since shortly after publishing those 434 miles of range on its website, the figure has been removed. Right now BMW indicates in a less precise way “up to 400 miles“. It should be noted that, for the time being, this latter claim is only an estimate, pending the official figure from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It would not be surprising, therefore, if those 434 miles turn out to be the definitive EPA range and that they were revealed by mistake on the BMW website for the North American market, and then quickly removed until the EPA confirms this figure officially.

The iX3 is based on BMW’s new Neue Klasse platform and features an 800-volt architecture, thanks to which it supports a charging power of up to 400 kW, which according to the manufacturer makes it possible to recover 175 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Likewise, BMW states that it is possible to increase the state of charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. This model is equipped with a 108 kWh battery pack with new-generation cylindrical cells that improve the energy density of the assembly.

Beyond specific technical specifications, the iX3 stands out for its excellent dynamic behaviour, notable ride comfort and state-of-the-art technology equipment. In the United States, this new electric SUV from the Bavarian manufacturer will go on sale with a base price of around 60 thousand dollars.

The official launch of the new iX3 in the United States is scheduled for this very May, so the Bavarian manufacturer is expected to publish the definitive price list for this market shortly. In June the online configurator will be activated and orders will open, with the aim of making the first deliveries to customers in the United States by late September or early October at the latest.
